Domestic Violence/OFP

New York Protection Orders Attorney

If there has been an altercation or allegations of domestic violence, DeRoberts Law Firm can represent you in proceedings to protect yourself and your children from further harm. We also represent men accused of domestic assault or violating orders for protection.

Jeffrey DeRoberts has practiced in family law in Syracuse and Central New York for 16 years. He offers you experience, dedication and the personal attention of your attorney throughout the duration of your case. He has represented parties on both sides of domestic violence situations like:

  • Legitimate victims of abuse seeking an order for protection (OFP)
  • Spouses or partners falsely accused by someone looking for an advantage in custody and visitation proceedings
  • Men (or women) accused of threats, harassment, stalking, property damage or other violations of orders

Call 866-918-8875 immediately to protect your rights. We can respond quickly to represent you in emergency court hearings for no-contact/restraining orders, and in subsequent court hearings on whether to continue the protective order. Mr. DeRoberts practices in Onondaga County and surrounding counties.

Protection orders are generally handled in the Integrated Domestic Violence Court (IDV), which combines custody and visitation disputes and domestic violence proceedings. If you were the victim, we work to ensure your safety while disrupting the family as little as possible. We may recommend counseling and treatment for the abuser and a temporary "time-out" order – this would hopefully give you some much-needed relief while keeping hope alive for reconciliation. In other situations, we may press for a permanent order for protection to help you get you out of an abusive relationship. We listen to what you want and help you relay it to the judge.

If you are the accused, we are well-aware that the other party may be manipulating you to get custody of your kids or cut off your visitation rights. We will refute unfounded allegations of domestic assault and fight any attempt to make a temporary OFP permanent. Mr. DeRoberts will aggressively challenge criminal charges of violating a temporary or permanent order.
